How should you prep skin for fake tan?

People underestimate how important this first step is – it really is the foundation of a flawless tan, yet it’s easy to want to skip steps to save time, especially if you’re looking for instant results and hour before your big event. But be warned, this is when mistakes happen and you can end up with disastrous results.

The most common mistake is to moisturise before you tan, which is a real no, no!! – and again can lead to blotchy streaking tan as the tan can’t penetrate the skin if it’s just been moisturised. If you’re waxing or shaving before tanning, make sure you do it more than 24 hours before your tan. I also recommend, when possible, to tan the night before, when you have a little more time and aren’t so rushed.

Lastly & most importantly, you really do need to cleanse and exfoliate your skin, as it ensures a smooth, even application and will help your tan last even longer. When should you apply a fake tan – straight out of the shower, before bed, in the morning?

Within 1 hour of showering when your skins PH level is at its optimum. It really does make all the difference!

How long before you can get dressed?

The longer the better but a minimum of 10 – 15 mins to allow the formulation to dry. Last thing you want is tan on your sheets, or worse still on your clothes.

If you have accidentally over-tanned a patch of skin, how can you tone it down?

Often the best way to tone down one area is just by buffing the area gently so it lifts a little of the tan instead of taking off layers, which can just make the mishap more obvious.

How can you avoid streaks?

Don’t apply tan if you’re in a rush
Don’t apply tanning products in a dimly lit bathroom – seeing where you are
applying is key!

Do use sparingly on knees, ankles and elbows

When you’ve applied your tan wear loose, dark clothing and avoid tight-fitting underwear. Anything that’s pressing on the skin may make the results a bit patchy.

How do you counteract that fake tan smell?

This is one of the biggest complaints about fake tans and lets face it, no one likes it when your husband / boyfriend kicks you out of bed because the smell is too overwhelming.

How do use SUNSPONGE, your newest tanning innovation?

Good question, as with innovation requires education!

With SUNSPONGE CUSTOM SELF TAN it really is as easy as SHAKE, PRESS, BLEND!

STEP 1 - SHAKE turn bottle upside down and press the lower part of the sponge quickly against the skin 2-3 times, this will “activate” the SUNSPONGE.

STEP 2 – PRESS the sponge head against skin to release the bronze tinted liquid into lower part of the sponge so your application can start. A quick press is all you need as a little goes a long way.

STEP 3 - BLEND using long even strokes with the upper part of the sponge to blend. Use the inbuilt bronzer as a guide to ensure a streak-free application. Then repeating the above process to the next area of the body.

How can you pick the right shade for your skin colouring?

With all our tanning products there is only one shade of each product so it’s more about the intensity of the colour. For instance, if you like a deep more intense tan then you’d look to layer your application of TAN IN A CAN or say BODY MERINGUE, where as if you were fairer, one application of TAN TRANSLUCENT or TAN GLOVE which has no instant bronzer & has a more subtle colour payoff.
